Op zondagavond van de zonsondergang en lekker eten genoten in de tuin van Riverside.
Vriendelijke bediening en precies het door ons gewenste tempo waarin gerechten doorkwamen
We zaten op een prachtige plek met heel vriendelijke bediening. Het eten was heerlijk en blijft alleen maar op de 4 (ipv 5) sterren hangen omdat de ribsteak van mijn partner ongeveer 1/3 taaie en daardoor niet door te kauwen of te snijden stukjes (vet met een soort korst) bevatte die hij dus moest laten liggen. Verder werd alles met smaak en een vriendelijke lach opgediend en was alles heerlijk!
We waren de enige gasten in een saai kale zaal, de weg naar het toilet stond vol met troep, geen papieren handdoek, kortom jammer. Het eten was goed, de wijnen ook maar niet bijzonder. Het terras is waar het hier om draait, niet het restaurant. Heerlijk gegeten, dat wel.

We had dinner here and the place has an incredible ambiance outside when the weather is nice. We sat outside until around 10pm with the sun setting around then. The view is amazing.

The ideas for the food were good, but the execution was not great. The beef tartar was good, but was overpowered by a too bug piece of buratta. The ceviche was good, but the way of serving with whole pieces of mackerel was not inviting. The ribeye was chewy. The dish with the prawns was delicious! And the desert was also good, albeit a bit too tricky to eat.
The service was okay. After every dish we were asked whether we want anything else, even though we did the 5-couse meal. The dessert took forever and when we were trying to get the attention of the waitress, she was having a smoke.
Overall an average experience which could be saved by a few small improvements.

Restaurant The Riverside is located on a historic site in Maarssen. In 2021, the restaurant has undergone a complete metamorphosis. For example, it has been given a contemporary modern design where you can enjoy yourself in a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen, led by chef Tom Vermeulen, has also been given a metamorphosis. The menu changes four times a year and is all about surprise. Perfectly composed flavor explosions where every bite should be a surprise. In short, a wonderful place for a nice lunch or dinner.
